Make Money with Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programs are (usually free) online opportunities, where you can
link to a merchant's web site (using a special link) and earn commissions.
In most cases, the amount of commissions earned are usually based on the
amount and value of sales that you generate.
The details of how different affiliate programs work can vary greatly,
as can their Terms and Conditions. For example:
- Some affiliate programs do not allow any use of email marketing
at all.
- Some affiliate programs do not allow you to place your affiliate
links in emails, but may be okay with you creating your own web pages about
the products and linking to those from opt-in mailings.
- Some affiliate programs do allow email marketing. Some even go so far
as to actively encourage it, by for example, providing, advertising and
other material that ezine publishers can use in opt-in mailings.
Please Note: Even those affiliate programs that do allow
email marketing, usually do not allow spam
mailings. Aside from that, as the exact Terms and Conditions of each
affiliate program can vary so widely - it is up to you to check precisely
what is and isn't allowed (and if you are not sure ask).
Five Ways To Make Money With Affiliate Programs and Ezines
There are lots of ways that you could make money with affiliate programs
and email marketing, including:
- You could place affiliate links in your own newsletter.
- If you are trying to
make money by selling advertising in your newsletter,
when you don't have enough advertisers to fill all the available slots, you
could use own affiliate ads.
- Some affiliate programs providing articles that ezine publishers can use.
The best articles are usually ones that both provide useful information to
readers, but also promote your affiliate link. You could use these in your
newsletter.
- You could write your own articles and reviews of products available from
your affiliate links. Once you have built-up a level of trust with your
ezine subscribers, an honest recommendation of a product or service could be
a highly effective selling technique.
- ...And finally, there is nothing to stop you
advertising in other people's ezines or
writing articles for other people's ezines,
to promote your affiliate links. Of course, it's more likely to be worth
the effort if the affiliate program that you are promoting offers products
that actually sell, and decent commissions to you on those sales.
One Final Tip
Affiliate links can sometimes be long, and consequently may not display
properly in some email programs. Read our article on
formatting long links, to avoid any
problems in this area.
