Make Money with Advertising

If you have your own ezine, you could make money by selling advertising in it.

How much should you charge for ads?

A good idea would be to look at other people's ezines on similar topics and see how much they charge. You'll probably find that most charge based on a combination of the number of subscribers, and the size and positioning of the ad.

Generally large multi-line ads near the top of ezines are the most expensive, and shorter classified ads (often 1 or 2 lines) are much cheaper. Additionally, some ezine publishers also sell Solo Ads, usually for a premium price, where subscribers are sent a special issue consisting entirely of a single large ad.

How can you find advertisers?

You can promote sales of ezine ads, in all the usual ways that you might use to promote any other Internet service. You could start by:
  1. Place information on your web site, describing the types of ads that you offer, the prices you charge for each, and showing a sample edition of your ezine. You might also want to include any other information that you have which advertisers may find useful - such as - the total number of subscribers you have, any demographic information that you have about your subscribers, testimonials from previous advertisers (if you have them or can get them) and so on.

  2. In each edition of your ezine, add a short message, telling readers that to find out how to advertise in the ezine, they should visit the web page that you set up in step 1.

What if you don't have enough advertisers?

If you have a number of advertising spaces in your newsletter, it's quite likely that you may from time-to-time be unable to sell them all. So what do you do?

There are two main choices:
  1. You could have a few less ads in that particular issue of your newsletter (your subscribers will appreciate it)

  2. You could use your own affiliate ads to fill in the empty slots.
